Design as Choreography
A piece of furniture does not fulfill its function until someone uses it. This year, at the Salone del Mobile, we decided to push that idea to the limit. If the Experimentarium was our laboratory, the contemporary dance duo Sandra Egido and Iván Sier were our “researchers,” tasked with sabotaging the conventional function of furniture to discover alternative uses through movement.
Under this premise, Sandra and Sier transformed the stand into a stage where each piece of the new collection dictated a different step. The performance began by breaking the clinical coldness of the laboratory with the warmth of movement. Their solemn entrance caught everyone by surprise.
The dancers challenged the conventional way of sitting on Vesta, where Sandra let herself slide through its volumes, turning the act of sitting into something fluid and purely kinetic.
We witnessed the duo’s profound connection through a language of minimal gestures, where Canto became more than mere seating, it was the framework for a physical conversation. That calm was suddenly broken upon reaching Mimoso, where an unexpected somersault over its padded surface reminded us that its comfort is also an invitation to play.
The tension rose as they reached the Cita table, which transformed from a dining object into a battlefield: a choreographic duel upon its surface that put the stability and resistance of the piece to the test.
The final moment, charged with symbolism, took place in the Orange Room. There, seated on the Link, the couple reached a state of absolute complicity. Entwined like the links themselves, their movement became circular and infinite, merging their bodies with the very structure of the design.
