Between Light and Matter

Chronicle of Three Days in Copenhagen

During 3daysofdesign, we didn’t just share a space. We shared a way of being. This wasn’t a conventional installation, but a creative cohabitation. The pieces from Paper Collective and Sancal came together with ease: two brands that understand one another, that complement each other, sharing space, experiences and good vibes. As if our creations had been destined to meet.

We settled into a historic apartment opposite the Design Museum Danmark. A warm, characterful place that soon transformed into a shared home. The pieces from both brands settled in as if they had always belonged there, blending with surprising naturalness.

Every corner spoke of the everyday and the extraordinary. Of design that stirs emotion without demanding attention. Light flooded the space with a heady, golden clarity, streaming through the windows and gently touching furniture, graphic artworks and visitors alike. A serene, luminous atmosphere that invited people to linger, to observe, to reconnect.

Sancal’s sculptural furniture and Paper Collective’s art prints entered into dialogue. A play of forms, colours and emotions. Together, they brought the space to life.

The exhibition unfolded across a series of immersive rooms. Each one posed a question, inviting reflection on the connection between design, emotion and artistic expression.

ROOM 1: Can art find a home?

A contemporary, vibrant living room where form and colour coexist in balanced expressiveness. The space invites us to experience art in everyday life, without solemnity or artifice.

The Vesta modular sofa takes centre stage with its welcoming presence, while the Roll chairs upholstered in Checker fabric add a playful, graphic touch. The Bold and Pion tables complement the space with sculptural forms. Surrounding them, pieces like the Vibe armchair and Elle Mini lounge reinforce a warm atmosphere where art truly feels at home.

ROOM 2: Can a lounge become a gallery?

In this bold setting, form and function merge into a sculptural identity. A visual statement where each piece stands out without losing its use. Organic lines and bold volumes create an atmosphere that invites viewers to look, touch, and inhabit.

The Remnant armchair and Canto modular system flow naturally through the space. Their expressive forms, paired with a palette ranging from vibrant tones to more subdued hues, generate a dynamic environment that encourages conversation and creativity. The Seta trolley, with its minimalist and mobile design, rounds out the set with a functional gesture that retains sculptural character.

ROOM 3: How does light sculpt a surface?

Through the works of Raw Color, this conceptual installation explores how curves and volumes interact with light, creating soft gradients and shadows that blur the boundary between two and three dimensions.

The cylinder acts as a formal element shared by Link and Loop, shaping the silhouettes of these expressive soft seats. Their rounded contours catch the light, letting it glide across surfaces and reveal subtle nuances. In doing so, the pieces transcend their function to become shifting sculptures, with forms that continually converse with their surroundings.

ROOM 4: CIs refined simplicity a form of art?

In this room, with neutral tones and minimalist forms, we explore the power of subtle design, through its usability and the delicacy of its formal language. A space that adapts easily to different moments be it for a meeting or meal.

The refined silhouettes of the Cita table and chair define this set, where each element fulfills its function without compromising aesthetics. Their balanced proportions reveal meticulous attention to detail, while the choice of materials and finishes adds warmth and sophistication. The Planta armchair, with its soft, organic shapes, brings a note of visual comfort, completing a calm, functional, and elegant ambience.

ROOM 5: What if watercolours could escape art and become furniture?

Sancal’s new wood-staining technique takes its cues from watercolor painting, debuting in the Suricata desks. These pieces serve as living canvases, dissolving the boundary between industrial craft and art.

Designed for dynamic environments of all kinds- classrooms, cafés, restaurants, auditoriums, to mention but a few. They are shown here in active use as part of a creative workshop, revealing their most playful and expressive side. The watercolour effect applied to maple wood gives each desk an artistic character.

Thank you to everyone who came by to share these days with us. We hope you felt as comfortable as we did. Just like at home!
