At Sancal, we’ve always believed that beauty is more than skin deep. Great design must be honest, long-lasting, and kind to the environment. While sustainability has been embedded in our culture for years, from our focus on regional craftsmanship to our focus on responsible environmental management, we know that the future requires more than just good intentions. It requires data, transparency, and a radical rethink of the furniture lifecycle.

Our commitment is backed by rigorous international standards:
- Certified Manufacturing process: We maintain strict environmental management systems across our production processes to minimize our footprint certified under ISO 14001.
- Transparency: We externally validated EPDs (Environmental Product Declarations), giving data on the environmental impact of our furniture, helping architects achieve their sustainability goals.
- Air Quality: We ensure our products meet strict Indoor Advantage Gold air quality standards, supporting healthy living environments for our users.
- Durability: Our products are tested externally to the highest European Norms; UNE EN 1728:2013 and UNE EN 12520:2010.
- A 10-Year Warranty: Because the most sustainable product is one that lasts, our quality standards are built to endure.

The Next Frontier: The FRANCESCA Project.
Even with these milestones, we are pushing further. We are proud to be a key industrial partner in FRANCESCA, an ambitious European Horizon project.
Coordinated by the Spanish technology center CETEM, the FRANCESCA project consortium brings together an ambitious group of 15 organizations across seven European countries, blending the expertise of academic and research bodies like the University of Vaasa, RISE, Chalmers Industriteknik, and IETU with industry associations and forward-thinking manufacturers like Sancal, Fama, Sonae Arauco, and FAMO to bridge circular design solutions with real-world market needs.

While others might look for quick fixes, we are working with researchers and industry leaders to tackle the entire furniture lifecycle. Our focus is on the hard stuff:
- Ecodesign: Integrating circular metrics into our design process from the very first sketch, ensuring that every curve and joint is optimized for the future.
- Circular Materials: We are constantly curating our fabric collection to include recycled and upcycled textiles, ensuring that “waste” becomes a design resource.
- Future-Proofing: Preparing for the Digital Product Passport (DPP) to ensure our pieces remain traceable resources for decades.

Design Without Compromise.
For us, FRANCESCA isn’t just an academic exercise, it’s an opportunity to bridge the gap between creative freedom and technical excellence. It’s about ensuring that when you specify a Sancal piece, you aren’t just choosing a beautiful design; you are choosing furniture that supports a circular, regenerative economy.
The road to true circularity is a marathon, not a sprint, but we are proud to be leading the way. We’re excited to share these innovations as they come to life in our factory and find their way into your projects.
