Body is a design by Sylvain Willenz for Sancal. Its name directly refers to the inspiration behind the piece: the human body silhouette, reinterpreted through a backrest that evokes the natural curve of the spine and shoulders.
The shell, crafted from molded ash wood, is defined by organic, soft, and restrained lines. The curvature of the material and the expressiveness of the ash in its exterior finish give the chair character, reinforcing its natural identity.
Defying gravity, the cantilever base reinvents a classic silhouette. With modernist roots and an iconic rise in the 1970s, Sancal brings back this emblematic form with a contemporary approach.

After graduating in Product Design from the Royal College of Art in London, the Belgian designer opened his own studio in 2004. Sylvain is an experienced industrial designer whose work has been recognized with prestigious awards, including several iF and a Red Dot, among others. His graphic and conceptual style, influenced by his early vocation as a draftsman, is evident in his work through clean, simple lines. Attentive to detail, Sylvain is fascinated by industrial processes while also exploring new forms of creation through his more artisanal pieces.
