The dictionary definition of a totem is an iconic piece or a special symbol, to which spiritual significance is attached.
Sancal’s new Totem maintains the ancient symbolism of an icon that transmits balance and creativity.
But what is it really?
It is a sophisticated bar stool and range of tables, the first collaboration of Sylvain Willenz with the Spanish firm. Totem’s sculptural curves are surprising, transcending its function to become a decorative object.
After the stool, the evolution of Totem towards a versatile family of tables and occasional tables was logical. The variety of heights and diameters available extend their functionality and allows them to be used for such diverse uses as: coffee or bedside table, dining table, high cocktail table and even mediumheight gathering table, which can be accompanied by soft lounge chairs.
Both the stool and table share the same metal structure, which can be lacquered from a selection of 16 colours with matching MDF tabletop. Alternatively, a solid oak top or seat can be fitted which can be stained from a wide selection of 22 colours.
Totem is part of Museo Collection.
"I like to devise my products as new and innovative, however they should always feel familiar and comfortable, hence my very graphic and simple language, with references and timeless forms. A lot of the time you’ve seen it… but you haven’t. "
