Inspired by the animal world, Suricata emerges from the Valencian studio’s curiosity to observe, reinterpret, and transform the everyday.
We are very happy to share that Suricata, designed by the Valencian studio Inma Bermúdez Studio for Sancal, has been awarded the ADCV Gold Award in the Seating / Furniture category.
Presented by The Association of Design Professionals of the Valencian Community, the ADCV Awards are held every two years to recognise excellence in Valencian design, highlighting its ability to drive business, social, and cultural innovation.
Suricata was conceived as a reinterpretation of the traditional school desk from a contemporary perspective. Inspired by the curious and active behaviour of meerkats, its design integrates seating and work surface into a single, light, compact, and functional piece, adaptable to educational environments, offices, collaborative spaces, and hospitality settings such as canteens, cafés, and contemporary taverns. Locally manufactured in maple plywood, Suricata combines formal simplicity, durability, and versatility. Its range of finishes, featuring new watercolour-effect stains, adds a playful and contemporary dimension while preserving the natural warmth of the material.
This recognition celebrates not only the design of a product, but also a way of understanding furniture: functional, long-lasting, approachable, and capable of transforming everyday spaces.
