The COLAB project, home to Sancal’s new headquarters in Madrid, continues its international journey and has been recognized by two of the most influential platforms in contemporary design. Selected in the Best Use of Material category at the FRAME Awards 2025, it has also made the shortlist for the DEZEEN Awards in the Sustainability category.
Both categories celebrate an approach to architecture that understands sustainability not as a one-off gesture, but as a way of thinking—and, above all, of acting. Led by Lucas Muñoz Muñoz, the COLAB refurbishment transformed the offices of a former notary into Sancal’s showroom, as well as a meeting point for Madrid’s professional community. For several months, the space became Lucas’s workshop and laboratory, where he explored legacy, matter, and transformation with profound respect and admiration.
The historic building on O’Donnell Street (Madrid) and the noble materials originally used by architect Antonio Lamela shaped the project as an exercise in material archaeology and recovery, approached from a contemporary and responsible perspective. The project embraces material reuse, reduction of environmental impact, and the creation of a new aesthetic of reuse, turning every space into a dialogue between history, design, and sustainability.
At COLAB, the traces of the past are not hidden. they are integrated, reinterpreted, and re-signified. Every surface, texture, and technical element remains as a testament to a conscious process, where imperfection becomes a language and materiality a vehicle for emotion.
The result is a living space, one that breathes, evolves, and adapts. A hybrid environment that reflects Sancal’s philosophy: a place to create, collaborate, and share.

This process of metamorphosis is also the guiding thread of the documentary La Maximización de la Circunstancia. The idea for the film emerged after the first meeting with Lucas Muñoz’s studio. What initially seemed like a simple making-of has turned into a reflection on design and its capacity to adapt to circumstance.
