Constructive and material minimalism.

What challenges arise when trying to balance functionality and aesthetics?

In a context like the current one, where aesthetics often prevails over function, Seta incorporates both aspects in a balanced way and demonstrates how furniture can be practical and expressive at the same time.

“Balancing functionality and aesthetics is a central challenge in design. Our approach involves ensuring that the product not only looks visually appealing but also performs its intended function effectively. This balance requires careful consideration of factors such as ergonomics, usability, and the overall user experience. Finding the right balance often involves iteration, testing, and refinement to ensure that all aspects are harmoniously integrated into the final product” emphasize David and Frank.

Geckeler Michels’ style skillfully merges constructive simplification with an industrial narrative, resulting in pieces that emphasize materiality as an essential part of their design.

In all their creations, timeless and rational principles flow with the creativity and liveliness typical of the Berlin cultural scene.

With its open structure, Seta is designed to store a variety of small objects, offering a flexible solution for their organization and display. Whether as a bedside table, as a side table next to the sofa or as a complement to the desk, Seta adapts to different needs. Why not as a bar cart or a charming mobile vanity?

But the highlight of Seta is its minimalist approach, both in design and materials. Made entirely of metal and using laser cutting and folding techniques to minimize waste, it combines simplicity and industrial elegance. Its textured finish adds character, while the exposed steel screws reinforce its industrial aesthetic.

“A boxy and sharp looking volumetry could only be achieved with steel sheet, and not least, it easily wears a whole set of different and punchy colours due to the durable lacquering technique that was chosen” explian the designers.

“Our aim was to create a product that exudes simplicity and elegance while remaining highly functional. This involved streamlining the design to its essential elements, such as the different compartments and their various accesses, and selecting steel sheet as the material that complements the minimalist aesthetic”.

Additionally, Seta’s practical swivel casters, discreetly hidden, allow it to be moved according to need, adding additional value in terms of mobility.

It is available in three tones: a vibrant orange, a warm and luminous ivory color, and a deep charcoal gray. Optionally, it is possible to acquire the top shelf in mirror gloss, thus expanding the aesthetic and functional options to suit different preferences and environments.

Geckeler Michels once again demonstrates their ability to turn everyday objects into pieces that transcend their practical function. Furthermore, it embodies a concept of adaptable furniture for the home or office.
