The soul of the factory

WorkArt is a tribute to the factory and its ability to generate spontaneous art with every gesture, every brushstroke, every stacked structure. In Milan, Sancal unveils this hidden universe, often overlooked by most.

The industrial process holds an inherent aesthetic—an unexpected beauty. Tools, stacked foam cuttings resembling sculptures, the patina formed by paint splatters, or layers of varnish dripping over time like stalagmites… All of these elements create a visual language that speaks to what happens during the making of a product.

At Sancal, production processes are precise, deliberate, and leave nothing to chance. Industrialisation is a serious and rigorous act, yet from it emerge unexpectedly beautiful objects. This fortuitous visual language also reveals the hidden side of manufacturing. Until now, its beauty was concealed within the arrangement of raw materials before transformation or what is typically considered ‘production waste.’ However, once revealed, it takes on its own value, proving that even stored materials or the traces left behind in the manufacturing process can become a source of unique, admirable aesthetics.

It is within this world that sisters Esther and Elena Castaño-López, with their ever-curious and convention-free perspective, uncover the latent beauty in production remnants, transforming the seemingly ordinary into something extraordinary. Under their direction, fragments of the production process and “found objects” are elevated to the status of artistic pieces. A narrative that only becomes visible to those who learn to look beyond.

At the Salone del Mobile in Milan, Sancal will reveal this concept as part of the scenography—an immersive space that serves as the backdrop for the launch of our latest designs. At the same time, it is also a tribute to our work and the dedication of our team, recently recognised with the prestigious Spanish National Design Award.

What will we present in Milan?

Vesta, Planta, and Suricata are this year’s new products, showcased alongside expanded collections already in our catalogue, such as Seta, Cita, Canto, Elle, and Core. Each of these designs follows a conscious, precise, and thoughtful approach—one that embraces materiality and aesthetics while responding to a clear functional purpose. We look forward to presenting during your visit to our stand.

Between improvisation and technique, between the ephemeral and the permanent, WorkArt proves that beauty can be found anywhere—you just have to learn how to see it.
