This is Isern Serra’s latest intervention in Sancal’s Barcelona showroom, located within the offices of the acclaimed agency Fuego Camina Conmigo.
The entire project was originally designed and executed by Isern Serra in 2021. After three years of intense activity, which included small interventions in the main sets and several temporary exhibitions, Sancal recognized the need to renew all the displayed furniture. Once again, they entrusted Isern’s studio with the task of rethinking the spaces.
Under the title Habitable Sculptures, the showroom’s renewed staging has transformed the space into a living gallery, where each piece of Sancal furniture is perceived as an almost sculptural work.
For Isern Serra this renovation represents a natural evolution of the space, emphasizing the idea that furniture can be interpreted as functional sculptures.
One of the key novelties of this intervention is the collaboration with Vasto Gallery, specialized in collectible pieces, which has contributed works by the artistic duo Forever Studio. In dialogue with Sancal’s furniture, these pieces add an even more artistic dimension to the project, reinforcing the intrinsic connection between art and design. Contemporary design transcends functionality and aesthetics by incorporating a conceptual narrative akin to that of art.
The showroom has been reorganized following a curatorial approach reminiscent of an art gallery. Through a meticulous study of colours and textures, distinct settings have been created, inviting visitors to rediscover Sancal’s pieces from a new perspective. The rugs, designed specifically for the space, define each scene, creating a play of contrasts with the neutral backdrop of the walls and floors.
Natural light, filtered through the space’s large windows, adds dynamism to the installation, making the silhouettes evolve throughout the day with an intriguing interplay of light and shadow.
The magic of the space was captured by Clemente Vergara, who, along with the Isern studio, captured the essence of the place with a distinctive style. Specializing in architecture and visual composition, the photographer created images that play with shadows, lines, and colors, highlighting the interaction between Sancal’s pieces and the atmosphere created by Isern.
Habitable Sculptures goes beyond a mere product showcase; it becomes a stage where art and design converge, proposing a new way of inhabiting spaces.
